Christmas is almost here

I can't believe that Christmas is almost here already. How time flies.

It has started to cool down a bit now so it is bearable to go out and walk around.  I am on a weeks holiday now as it is the Chinese National Holiday.

We were told by some friends that there is a little restaurant that makes a mean BBQ.  So on Friday we decided to go and eat out at this restaurant.  Well you walk in and choose the dishes you want cooked by looking at the ingredients.  And the BBQ meat. We choose lamb as that is not very common in China. Well I think people really need to come to South Africa to see how we BRAAI.  They would never be the same again.

Spinach

Garlic shoots

Vegetable Dumplings

Lamb skewers

The vegetables were delicious. As we're the dumplings.

After eating out we took a walk to a shop that sells tasty soft serve ice cream. And then did a little photo shoot on the way back.

Today we wished for dumplings and while we were waiting for them to make our take away Sarah decided that she needed to have her hair trimmed.  And opposite the dumpling take away there was a all male run hairdresser. And she decided to take the risk, firstly knowing we had a language barrier and secondly, they had not worked on her type of hair before.  And wow!  He did an excellent job.  Sarah was very happy.  And it was cheap as well. For a head massage, then wash, cut, blow dry .... ¥28 which works out to R51. Then I decided to change my hairstyle as well.  Sarah now goes once a week to have her hair washed and blow dried.  Spoilt I tell you.

The new me.

After the hairdresser we found another little restaurant and decided to go and have some lunch. The vegetables are yummy. Paul ate the tofu.  Not such a big fan of that.   Then it was home time and we ate those dumplings for supper.

The last few weeks we have had some good evenings out with Kathy.  She took us out to a restaurant after a good lunch at Mac Donalds.

At a Chinese restaurant across the street from us.

Sashimi on ice

Rice balls with blueberry filling

Mixed vegetables

We also had sweet and sour pork but forgot to take a photo.

Each room has a fully stocked alcohol corner.  There alcohol and cold drinks are served at room temperature.  As you in the above picture, there is no fridge.

We have also spent a few nights at 1996, which is a art gallery upstairs, restaurant on the ground floor and a disco downstairs.  If anybody lives in Rizhao and reads this blog, this is by far the best place to buy pizza.  They really are awesome and better than any other place in Rizhao.  The ambiance is awesome.  It reminds me of a gentleman's club with all the wood and low lit lighting and a one man band that plays instrumental.  Very relaxing indeed.

Two different occasions at 1996

Walking back from having supper at 1996.

We had some walks and then went to eat at a Korean restaurant.

Sarah still pulling faces.  Ha ha.

At Baba Chicken

At school we have had founders day, celebrating the day the foundation was created.  And we do this with going online with all the other campuses and wishing a "Happy Birthday" to the foundation and then it is a sports day after that.  And I saw Tania and Shirley online.

We have also had a field trip to a grape farm where we were allowed to pick our own grapes and also vegetables from their vege patches.  The children loved it.  A great learning experience.

This dog posed for a photo.

The vegetables and grapes I picked.

It has started to get colder now so its time to start taking out our winter clothing and getting them ready for the winter ahead.

It is back to school, and busy with settling in reports, field trips, thanksgiving get together with parents and Christmas school dinner and also only 9 weeks to Christmas. There are going to be good times ahead.

Well that's all for now.  Keep reading our blog to keep up with our travels and experience in China.
