How time does fly. This last school year has just flown by. It has been an exhausting, challenging and rewarding school year.
The last couple of days have kept us busy with getting all our things ready for our summer holidays. We are heading back home to South Africa, for 6 weeks, to visit all our family and friends.
We have been busy packing our bags for South Africa, trying to fit in as much clothes, winter clothes, between all the gifts. Ha Ha. But it is all done now and we are just waiting for Saturday to start our travels back HOME.
Kathy did not renew her contract so will be leaving on Friday. It is sad to say goodbye, as she has become family. And two new western teachers and a new principal, whom I have already met, will start in the new academic year.
Last Saturday, 20 June, our gang of friends got together and surprised Kathy to a goodbye lunch. At this restaurant you choose your own food you want cooked and they will do it for you. It was a lot of fun, and of course we were the last people to leave, as always. The spread of food was good and enjoyed. But I bet Kathy cant wait to sink her teeth into some western food now.
Then on the Monday, 22 June, was a public holiday so we had no children at school. But the teachers had to go in for an in service day. So we all came in and sorted out our classrooms for next year. At midday we all went to 1996 restaurant for a YWIS school lunch. The food was great as usual. After lunch we all went home.
Then it was school as usual on Tuesday to Thursday. Friday we are having the children for half day.
But on Wednesday we had a YWIS / YWIEK farewell supper at the school cafeteria. Chloe did an awesome job planning the whole event. The caterers served more of a western style food than Chinese food. I think it was because there were three western staff leaving. But it was good.
This will be the last post while in China. Will post again once we reach South Africa.
