International Day

What an awesome day.

It started with the parents being invited over two days, for one lesson, to come and teach the children about their country and culture.  We had Chinese parents, Korean parents and British parents come share with the children.  They were taught about:

The Dragon Boat Festival,

Korean Wrestling,

How to bow and receive money from a Korean elder,

What the Korean flag means,

How to make kimbab.

What the countries the Union Jack flag is made up of and to ice a cupcake in a Union Jack.

On the Friday we celebrated International day with a lunch.  All the teachers and parents were asked to bring in some food that is made in their countries.  Tables were placed around the room for the different countries and the walls were decorated with flags and artwork made by the students. The countries represented were America, South Africa, Romania, New Zealand, Australia, Korea and China.

The children were asked to come dressed in their traditional attire, and the teachers also came in their traditional attire.  We had a short performance in the Library.  There was a Chinese dance, Korean dance, Taikwando dance, and of course a Jan Pierewiet Song and Dance.

After a scrumptious lunch, the children went back upstairs to join in more cultural crafts that the teachers had planned.

It was a huge success.

Shanghai Zoo and Aquarium

As promised, I am sharing our visit to the Shanghai aquarium and zoo.

The gardens were a beautiful sight all manicured and brightly coloured.  You know you are in spring when you see this.

Some of the animals looked happy, and some did not look happy at all.  But a good variety of animals in the Zoo.

Some of the birds:

These penguins were very curious about Paul's camera.  One even tried to bite it.

And some of the other animals:

HELLO THERE !!!

We also visited the Shanghai Aquarium.  It was a good visit.  But there were also so many school children running around as they were on a field trip.

The Aquarium has beautiful scenes depicting  habitats.

They also had a underwater glass tunnel, and you could either stand on the conveyor belt and it took you along the tunnel or walk on the side of it at your own pace.

The lighting also brought out the best in the sea life.

After visiting the aquarium, we stopped off and Mr Yangs for some famous dumplings and walked around the area for some sightseeing.

That it for now until next time.
