Hello SHENZHEN

We landed in Hong Kong .  This time we did not stay air side for a connecting flight.  The Head of Primary met us at the airport and there was transport to take us over the boarder, which was quite effortless, into Shenzhen.  Shenzhen is a first tier city, and a Special Economic Zone city in China.

We were taken to the hotel, which the school put us in for a week.

Views in Hong Kong on the way to Shenzhen.

We met some new teachers too.  We explored CoCo Park which is the most western mall here in Shenzhen.  We also took the metro to Louhu to visit the 5 floor indoor market.  Very similar to the one in Shanghai, but it has more tailors on the top floor.

Pictures above are at CoCo Park.  The ones below at the fake market.

Once the weekend was over, the work began.  Alicia and Mandy were very patient with the foreign staff's questions and queries.  New phone cards had to be registered (we had to change ours as well, as using a sim from another city we get charged international roaming rates), new bank accounts opened, medicals had to be done the following week.  We also had to apartment hunt during the week as well.  The apartments are much smaller than the one in Rizhao, and its also more expensive.

View from our apartment.

Yes, that's the pool in our complex.

During the week we met up with other teachers for dinner at different restaurant.

Paul and I found a place that offers very delicious steak.

During the same week, we were taken on a short tour of Shenzhen and had an end of the week dinner for new staff and spouses.

Out and about at sea world.

We have been spoilt with Mc Donalds, Burger King, Subway, etc being in a first tier city.  We have also had the opportunity to visit Ikea.  This is definately my favourite shop.

It has been so so so so so so very hot and humid here.  You have to carry an umbrella with you wherever you go as it can start to rain at anytime.  All the shopping centres and metros are airconditioned but you still have to walk to get the metro and by the time you get there it is as if you have had a shower.

The next week I started school, and it feels good being part of a big team again.  I am teaching year two and work has been busy.  Setting up of classrooms and getting work ready for the children..  It definately has been fun so far.

Keep reading and I'll keep writing

Anyway, keep reading and I'll keep posting.
