Christmas Day - Beijing 25/12/2013

Merry Christmas Everyone.  I hope you all enjoyed your day and the divine Christmas lunches.

WE SPENT CHRISTMAS ON THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA

We booked a tour through our hotel.  So we had to be at reception by 7am.  That was the time our transport was to pick us up.  And they were on time.
(The people in China are very timely.)

So off we went in a combi, got a bit comfy in our seats and after about a 10 minute drive was told to get off.....  I was a bit confused at first.  But then we were told to get onto the bigger bus, with other tourists, that was going through to the Great Wall.

Erin enjoying the ride so much she fell asleep.

It was about an hours drive to the BaDaLing entrance, after picking up all the tourists.  You have to walk from the car park to the entrance.

Your tour price includes the transport, entrance fee and lunch.  You have 2 ways of going up to the wall and 3 ways coming down.  If you don't want to purchase the ticket for the cable car going up, you could hike up a 2km incline up to the wall.  We decided that the cable cars were easier and quicker.  Coming down we could either hike, take the cable car or the toboggan.  Well some of us did not feel very adventurous, so we took the cable car back.  Anton and Steven took the toboggan back.  We definitely will try the toboggan next time.  The only thing is, is that you have to literally jump off the cable car at the finish as it doesn't stop.  (Stressed a bit  :))  )

Well we were warned that it is not an easy walked on the wall.  And that is absolutely correct.  The stairs are all uneven and it is very steep.  It is stairs all the way up and down and up and down.

You go through 2 towers to get to the last one.  Amazing views.

Our camera man enjoying taking photos of the beautiful views.

It was an awesome experience.  Once we got to the top of the wall, I pulled out some Christmas hats and we took some family photos.  I think a lot of other people were thinking to themselves,
"why didn't we think of that!"

I can't even start to explain to you how wonderful it feels standing on the wall on Christmas day.  We will always be able to answer this question:  "What did you do on Christmas day 2013"  and our reply will be:  "We walked the Great Wall of China".
Absolutely fantastic.

So the Great Wall is divided into left and right when you ascend.  The adventurous go to the left, as it is a longer, much longer walk, and has some dangerous areas along the way, and to the right is also for the adventurous as well I would say.  However, it has been fixed up and is an 'easier' walk.  Yea right.  It took us two hours hike to the end.  But once you finish it, you feel absolutely grand.

After descending the Great Wall we had to make our way  to Mr Wang's Restaurant.  Our Lunch was included in the fee.  But we had to walk our way through all the street traders first to get to the restaurant.  Well lets just say, my bargaining skills have improved dramatically.

This man saw Anton and says "Hey my friend, I haven't seen you for a long time.  Come look at my store."  Ha Ha

 Bargaining

Before we left for our holiday I learnt the words  'Duosh a o qian' and   'Tai Guile'  which means 'how much money' and  'too expensive'. And when the locals hear you speak some Chinese then they know you live in China.

We had a wonderful lunch at Mr Wang's Restaurant.  We had two Italian brothers sit at the table with us.  They were going around the world and their rule was to visit all the countries that were in a different time zone from Italy.

Then it was the back to the bus.  I think everyone on the bus fell asleep.  It was really heavy exercise that we all went through on the wall.

Just to show you how cold it was at the Great Wall .......

 Frozen waterfall.

And as we left to the great wall, so we went back.  At a certain point there was a combi waiting for us to take us back to the hotel.  We got back at 5pm.  A day well spent I say.

Then it was time to open presents before supper.

Too excited.  She even gave us a little dance in her Chinese dress.

Then we went down to the hotel restaurant and had our Christmas Supper.
It was good to spend it with family.

Cheers Everyone and Merry Christmas.
