Good bye Beijing and Hello Shanghai 26/12/2013

Today is the last day that we spend in Beijing.  We have to check out of the hotel by 12pm, but our train only leaves at 6pm.  We had packed the night before as we didn't want to waste any time in Beijing.  The hotel was able to store our luggage for us and we went out to spend the last day in Beijing walking around and doing some last bit of shopping.

We went to McDees for some lunch and Starbucks for a coffee before we went to get our baggage at the hotel.

We then left for the train station at 4pm.  We had to do it in two shifts but at least we were able to get the same guy who gave us a lift to the hotel.  So we were early and had to wait.  We managed to get 2 porters to help us with our suitcases.  And boy are we glad we did.  The pushing and prodding of the people when the gates are open is silly.  But the porters take you to the front and then right into your birth on the train.  But you do have to haggle a fee to use them.

Once on the train and settled it was fun, especially having Sanchia, Anton, Stephen and Erin next door.  Obviously, Sanchia and I made sure that we had enough padkos and coffee for the journey.

It was a pleasant train ride except the fact that only the local toilets were available.
