Our last day in Beijing 5 April 2014

So Nikki and Marco had left for home.  And about 10am China time Saturday they would have landed in Abu Dhabi.

We had another day in Beijing.  We had to be checked out by 12 and our train only left at 11:08 that evening.  What to do?

Paul and I quickly walked to the Hutongs to by another bag as I had done some shopping and we had only carried small luggage with us.  By the time we got back we had one hour to check out.  Which we did in time.  We checked our luggage into their luggage hold and decided, well we have to walk.  It was another cold day in Beijing.

So we walked.

By 1pm we were hungry so landed up at Burger King for our last burger.  And we sat there for one and a half hours to waste time.

Then we walked and walked again.  At last our feet were too sore so we sat at a coffee shop in the middle of Wangfujing Street and drank some coffee milkshake.  It was very nice.  We managed to sit there for another hour.  Why is it when you need more time it just disappears and when you need it to go quickly it drags on.  We then landed up at the Wangfujing Foreign book store where most of the books were in English.  So in we went and browsed around the store for about another hour.

Eventually we couldn't walk anymore and headed back to the hotel.  On the way there, the food stalls that were not open on the way, were now open and we decided to walk past the stalls and through the crowds to waste some more time.  Some foods look delish but the smell of the rancid oil which smells like offal puts one off buying the food.  There were plenty of Chinese delicacies as well.

At one of the stalls we stopped to look at what was on the skewers.  The vendor saw what we were looking at and nicely grabbed his crotch and said to us, "Lamb Balls".  Then using his finger showed us that next to the Lamb Testicles were as he said it "Penis".  Sorry Niks you missed it.

Then back at the hotel we sat for another hour and by 6:30pm we stopped a taxi to take us to the train station.  Well what can I say, I think everyone was going home then.  We had to stand for an hour before we could get any seats.

Then we just sat and waited.

When it was time to board, I am glad we had experienced the pushing and shoving before. There were so many people at the station.

We landed up in the same birth as when we left Beijing the last time.  We were tired and managed some sleep between stops.  We got into Rizhao at 11:25 Sunday morning.  What a great holiday.

Thank you Nikki and Marco for all the goodies you brought over with you.  We are enjoying them at home now.

Now I am getting myself ready for the last 12 weeks of this school year.  And of course for our next holiday to Bali, Indonesia.

The Heath's last day in China - 4 April 2014

The day started late as Nikki had to pack their bags and make sure everything was accounted for.  Before we left for our last walk we had some family photo shoots in the hotel room.  Then we decided to go for the last walk down Wangfujing with them.  How time flies when you are having fun.

We went for our goodbye supper at Grandma's and we really did eat a lot of food.  The waiter actually came to our table and said that the chef wanted to know if we still wanted the rice and noodles as we had ordered a lot of food.  We did not even know it as you don't get a plate of food in front of you but instead everything is served in bowls and placed in the middle of the table.  And you don't dish up a huge plate full but instead a little bit at a time.  You also only have a side plate  to dish up on. A fantastic way to eat.  Very sociable.  I think we actually got drunk on the food as we had such a funny evening that we could not stop laughing.

Then we walked again just to get the food down.

Then it was back to the hotel again where Nikki and Marco got the children ready for the flight and then themselves.

At 10pm we were down in the lobby saying goodbye.  It is not easy to say goodbye especially when you don't see family that often.  And Nikki and Marco and our family are in the same boat.  There were tears and kisses and thanks all around. And they left.

Their flight left at 1am Saturday morning.

Nikki, Marco, Tamika and Liam.  Thank you for a fantastic holiday in Beijing.  We loved having you here and we miss you terribly.

Love you sis.

You guys are awesome.

(Niks Bali is coming up in June - nudge nudge.)

So off we went to our hotel as we were only leaving the next day, Saturday.
