Tienanmen Square and Forbidden City 31 March 2014

Today we got up early and we all headed, walked, to Tienanmen Square.  This time of the year is Qing Ming Festival.  So there were loads and loads of people heading for Tienanmen Square.  We got to the security point and it took us about 10 minutes to go through.  Because of the recent attacks in China, mainly in the North of China, they were not taking a chance for weapons to be carried through to the most secured place in China.  There were so many people and only one scanner so it was a real shove your way through or you will be shoved out the way.

Once through the security point, we were able to breathe again.  It was a very hazy and polluted day.  But all the same we went and had some photo shoots to show we were there.  We also went into the Forbidden City.  But only some areas were open and some areas still closed.

After Tienanmen Square we headed off to the Hutong area which we ventured around on our first travels to Beijing.  And where the Y10 and Y15 shops are.  My favourite shopping area.  And did we shop.  After walking around and enjoying ourselves, and of course Liam and Tamika steeling the show, really being celebrities (we should have charged for the photos Niks we would have made a fortune), we headed back to the Hotel to freshen up.

Sarah babysat Liam and Tamika and the four of us went out to the Red Theatre to go and watch the Kung Fu Show that is acted out by real monks.

Marco had organised transport to the show.  And when we walked out the door of the hotel to get our transport, a little bright pink car, with pink seat covers, panda stuffed toys everywhere and a tiny Chinese lady was ready to take us there.  Hysterical. It was very good.

Once we were home Paul and Marco went to buy some Kentucky for supper.  What a day!!
